"Oh, but her being a woman sort of ruins the point we want to make about gay marriage, so we'll just gloss over the fact that she's trans, shall we?"

Real classy, you guys. Real classy.

I agree that marriage equality is a very important issue. But appropriating a transwoman's tragedy and misreporting the facts so that you can use it to make your case? That is some fucking grade-a douchebaggery, and you should all be really fucking ashamed of yourselves.

Media, why you got to be like that? :\ I don't know how they figured that could get away with this level of misreporting. Manipulating facts to make gay people the victim while erasing transfolk is not helping anyone! :c

The sad thing is that they are getting away with it; the dissenting voices from the trans community are pretty much drowned out by gay rights groups and biased media making it all about their cause instead. :(

I could talk forever about my issues with Gay Inc, in this case the Advocate and other "news" sources like it. They're shamelessly biased, but they're also the most affluent and thus the loudest voices in the community. I shudder to think what the Human Rights Campaign is saying about this situation.

The apathy and down right malice that exists within the LGBT community makes me cry. CAN'T WE ALL JUST HOLD HANDS AND SING KUMBYA?

It's just all so sleazy and exploitative (not to mention entirely disrespectful and dismissive), and I just cannot understand how a group that has faced (and is still facing) oppression can turn around and do it to someone else. WHAT IS SO WRONG WITH COMMON DECENCY, YOU GUYS?

The apathy and down right malice that exists within the LGBT community makes me cry.
God, this. Pretty much every time I see discussions about sexuality anywhere now, I feel like I need an LJ-icon that says "The GLBQT Community: We eat our own." :|
I mean, Christ, I can't even mention the fact that I'm asexual these days, for fear of being jumped by people telling me to shut up and stop trying to be such a special snowflake, and how dare I feel like my sexuality could present difficulties in my life, when gays and lesbians have much more legitimate issues?

CAN'T WE ALL JUST HOLD HANDS AND SING KUMBYA?
IF WE KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE. THEN MAYBE, ONE DAY...
